We were commissioned by a keen 1911 collector and Vincent motorcycle enthusiast to build a one-off custom pistol to complement a Black Lightning being made for him in Europe. After taking the time to fully understand the extent of the bike project we began the design on a pistol that would blend with the aesthetic and technical aspects of this unique motorcycle. The technical matters were straight forward but having to visually link a gun and a motorcycle was challenging.
It was clear from the outset that a traditional custom 1911 wouldn't do it on it's own and we agreed that engraving was the only way to take this gun to the next level. We turned to Paul Piquette who is without a doubt one of the finest 'theme' engravers alive. We supplied him with all the reference material he needed to start the layout on a hand engraved and gold inlaid piece that would focus on the Vincent features. The motorcycle itself was black and gold so Piquette had a lot going for him from a creative standpoint.
In the mean time we were hunting for an acceptable pre-70 Commercial Colt on which to build. Contrary to popular belief C-Seires Colts are not always what they're cracked up to be and finding the right candidate wasn't easy. We eventually prevailed though and began building the platform that would become Piquette's canvas.

The pistol itself is a Liebenberg 'Signature' Colt with all the details one would expect on a project of this intensity; custom machined parts, premium grade barrel, Bomar sights, hand checkering, custom magwell and smooth Madagascar ebony grips. The gun was then finished in a rich bi-tonal charcoal blue.
The final step was presenting the completed pistol. The project was passed on to another pure artist in Marvin Huey who built a magnificent walnut case with ammunition and magazine compartments, a precise French-Fit and a set of custom made tools with ebony handles to match the grips. The result of this collaboration between three specialists and passionate collector is a one-of-a-kind pistol that we are very pleased to have been involved in.
